Parallel to Art Basel, Gare du Nord presents «Sounds Nice» for the first time – a colorful mix of performances, installations, and concerts at the intersection of music, performance, and visual art, taking place in both the concert hall and the former restaurant space. The whole experience is topped off with DJ sets and a party vibe.
Monday kicks off with a rich lineup: the sound installation «Monolith 2.0», the interactive web piece «Neues Wir», and the «Liquid Lounge» with liquid drum and bass.
Monolith 2.0 – Manuel Gagneux, Mark Lando & David Loeffel
The concert hall at Gare du Nord is known for its acoustic precision and artistic depth. During «Monolith 2.0», it transforms into a black box, where sound becomes physically and emotionally tangible. «Monolith 2.0» creates a dialogue of intensity and silence, of anticipation and release. Visitors become participants in a sensitive exchange between human, sound, and space – guided by an oversized theremin.
The work by Manuel Gagneux, Mark Lando, and David Loeffel blends experimental music, sound art, and immersive audiovisual experience. «Monolith 2.0» is an invitation to interact – a play of light and shadow, resonance and frequency. A single beam of light serves as visual anchor, while the sound body is in constant flux – building, intensifying, and moving in unexpected directions. Every approach changes the acoustic structure, enhances the soundscape, or causes its abrupt disruption.
Neues Wir – Alina Inserra
A journey through a digital labyrinth full of surprises, dead ends, and detours. The interactive website «Neues Wir» weaves together misogynistic Bible passages, the capitalist exploitation of «Women’s Day», previously unknown philosophical texts by Walter Benjamin on romantic love, and decaying cemeteries in the forgotten region of Molise. Set within an atmospheric soundscape, the audience follows the protagonist in her search for identity and self-determination. Curiosity and initiative welcome.
Liquid Lounge
The former restaurant in the Badischer Bahnhof transforms into the «Liquid Lounge». Playful, unusual, quirky – maybe even a bit eccentric. In a relaxed atmosphere, guests can move to the melodies, harmonies, and sounds of liquid drum and bass, or simply engage in conversation and chill.
