The Earth is thrown from its orbit and set on a collision course with the sun.

To mark the beginning of the 25/26 season, Gare du Nord presents «Sturz in die Sonne» – an immersive sound performance for turntable orchestra, performers, and voice.

The rotating vinyl record, with its needle inevitably spiraling toward the center, serves both as a musical starting point and a symbol of a heating, collapsing world. Inspired by Charles Ferdinand Ramuz, the piece follows the narrative of his 1922 novel «Sturz in die Sonne», and draws clear parallels between a civilization on the brink of destruction and our world today.

This piece is a collaborative project by Janiv Oron, Thomas Giger, and Michael Anklin, with performances by Marie Delprat, Rea Dubach, and other guest artists.

For this sound performance, the team also collaborates with Noémi Büchi, Violeta Garcia, Martina Berther, Dimitri Grimm, Christian Zehnder, and Flo Kaufmann. Text fragments are performed by actress Cathrin Störmer.
